Is this a real law firm?

The law firm is Evans Law, PC, a corporate and securities firm in Tustin, California. Better Call Brett is a marketing name for that firm — not a separate practice, not a network, and not a hotline. The lawyer is Brett G. Evans, admitted in California and in three federal district courts and the Ninth Circuit.

Then why does the website look like this?

Because securities law is genuinely dry and most firm websites are indistinguishable from one another. This one is an experiment in whether a serious practice can be described accurately and still be memorable. Everything factual on the site is sourced from the firm’s conventional website. Everything that looks like a boast is a joke about lawyer advertising, and is labelled as one.

What kinds of matters does this practice actually handle?

Do you act for the industry, or for investors?

Both, in different matters. The practice represents broker-dealers, representatives, advisers, issuers and sponsors, and it also represents customers and investors. Those are different engagements with different duties, which is exactly why the conflicts check happens before anything confidential is discussed.

Why can’t I just send you my documents?

Until a conflicts check is run and an engagement is confirmed in writing, an unsolicited message may not be treated as confidential, and sending detailed material can create problems for you rather than solve them. Send a general description first. It costs you nothing and protects both sides.

What happens after I submit the form?

It is read, a conflicts check is run, and you are told whether this is the right desk for your matter. No response time is promised anywhere on this site, because promising one would be a commitment the firm has not made to you. Can you guarantee a result?

No. Nobody can, and in California a lawyer is prohibited from making false or misleading communications about their services, which includes guaranteeing outcomes. Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome. Any lawyer who tells you otherwise has told you something more useful about themselves than about your case.

This website is an original piece of work about a much older genre — the loud local attorney advertisement, which has been embarrassing everyone in the profession since long before anyone put it on television.

Are the awards, reviews and endorsements on this site real?

There are none. Deliberately. No badges, no star ratings, no testimonials, no “as seen on,” no fictional accolades dressed up to look real. The only things presented as fact on this site are the credentials and matters published on the firm’s own website.

Is anything on this page legal advice?
